The 14TH Model United Nation Assembly

Foreign University International School Manila Philippines - 14th Model UN Assembly

Last 26 November, 113 delegates from different schools and universities attended a seminar held by the 14th Model United Nations Assembly Training Seminar at Brent International School. The morning started with a hearty breakfast, gathering all participants in the Cafeteria and at exactly 8:30am the delegates were welcomed by the Jose P. Rizal Makati Rotary Club and the Brent Model United Nations. The current president of the JPR Makati Rotary Club, Ms. Patty King gave her welcome speech followed by the founder of MUNA and current adviser of the BMUN, Mr. Lewis. SFU was one of the 16 schools and universities which participated in this year’s MUNA. The delegates for SFU were: Kimberley Pedge (Rotaract President), Chaselle Rodriguez (Rotaract Vice President for SOBC), Mandy Sanchez (Rotaract Secretary), Angelica Madamba (Rotaract Treasurer), Gian Antonio, Robee Joy Sunga, Juan Paolo Alino and Shimas Rasheed. The SFU delegates were sponsored by the Rotary Club of Makati Salcedo.

All the delegates were divided into different groups and assigned specific countries. The Brent MUNA members facilitated the groups and taught them how to prepare their opening speeches, resolutions, pre-ambulatory clauses, the general rules and procedures, how to conduct researches, to negotiate with other countries, and the like. According to Robee Sunga, listening to the seminar at first gave her ‘information-overload’ but once she had understood all the procedures, she found all the activities helpful and was definitely encouraged to join the 14th Model United Nations Conference which will be held on February 4 and 5 at the World Health Organization in Taft Avenue. This experience brought a higher level of awareness to the students regarding global issues. Furthermore, the experience opened their eyes to what goes on in the United Nations Conferences, how countries establish cooperation among each other, and how they solve issues affecting our world.
