Pioneering School Marks 13TH Year

SFU will be one of the major participants in the 23rd Career Counseling and Guidance Fair organized by International Education Specialists, September 15-16, at the Philippine Trade and Training Center, Roxas Blvd. The educational exhibit is one of SFU’s major activities this year to commemorate its 13th anniversary as the Philippines’ pioneer in transnational education.

SFU’s participation will focus on its Professional Chef and Professional Restaurateur courses. Students visiting the SFU booth can take advantage of one-on-one free career counseling sessions with the school’s career specialists, observe and take part in culinary demonstrations and enjoy some of its surprise features.

Gracing SFU’s anniversary kick-off earlier this year was Las Piñas City congressional representative Mark A. Villar who lauded the university for its success in offering world-class education to Filipinos and overseas students. A career seminar series, a students’ cultural diversity competition, film showings, a photo competition and a fun run were some of the activities held recently to mark the year-long celebration.

Among expatriate families in the Philippines, Korea, Japan and other Asian countries, SFU is recognized for the courses it delivers and the diplomas/degrees conferred from prestigious educational institutions in the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia.

Among its overseas partner institutions are Edexcel, the largest international awarding body approved by the UK government; University of Sunderland, also in the U.K.; the International College of Hotel Management (ICHM), Adelaide, Australia.

SFU delivers these schools’ curricula and awards their original diplomas and degrees to its graduates. While the majority of its students graduate in the Philippines - and therefore spend much less than if they attend these partner universities’ campuses abroad - some families opt to send their children to these overseas universities in their final school year and enjoy the career and residency benefits these countries have to offer.

“SFU graduates have proven to be very employable, both overseas and locally,” says SFU chairman Roger Bartholomew. “That’s because we constantly enhance our course content to cater to the evolving needs of industries looking for specific skill sets. SFU Business students are prepped to become effective business leaders, marketing strategists, human resource specialists, finance strategists and IT professionals; and in the HRM field, professional chefs, professional restaurateurs and professional hoteliers.”

Adding greater significance to SFU’s 13th anniversary observance is the recent report about its graduates receiving top honors in London universities: Business graduates Jean Baldado and Denesse Cajulis, both were awarded 1st Class Honors Degrees (Summa Cum Laude) from Oxford Brookes University and London Metropolitan University, respectively; and Computing graduates Jonah Mangahas and Julius Mangahas, were conferred degrees, Magna Cum Laude, from the University of Bedfordshire.
