Culinary Institute at SISFU: A Bread-making Demo

 

8 March – The Culinary Institute at SISFU (CIS) conducted the first of more culinary demonstrations they have in store. Piloting the series are Chefs Bernice Pimentel and Ryan Pido.

Chef Bernice's family owns the famed Ilustrado Restaurant in the Walled City of Manila. She completed her Diploma in Fundamentals of Culinary Arts and has also successfully taught herself in the Pastry Arts. Aside from running Ilustrado's Kitchen, she is also teaching Culinary and Pastry Arts and has worked as the Pastry Chef for the popular reality show, Survivor USA.

Chef Bernice had an interactive session with the audience as she demonstrated the procedures for making chocolate chip cinnamon rolls and raisin buns.

The following demonstrator, Chef Ryan studied in SISFU and was awarded the Higher National Diploma in Hospitality Management by Pearson, UK. He then finished his Bachelor of Business (Hospitality Management) at the International College of Hospitality Management (ICHM) in Adelaide, Australia. He has had previous culinary experience at Bristol Marriott Royal Hotel in the UK. Currently, He is SISFU's Culinary Arts and Kitchen Operations Manager of the School of Hospitality Management (SOHM). Apart from this, he is the Managing Director at RJP Consultants Inc. with clients such as Nurture Wellness Village and Dean & Deluca. Also, he represents Kenwood Philippines as a brand ambassador.

The participants were able to take home recipes and food from the demonstrations.

The intensive Culinary Arts programme runs for six months in a professional kitchen setting. Students become industry-ready for they will be equipped with hands-on training experience along with in depth theoretical coverage and entry-level credentials.

There is an option to accomplish an additional three months to be awarded a Certificate in Culinary Entrepreneurship, which is favorable for those who intend to open their own food business.
