Our school, Southville International School affiliated with Foreign Universities (SISFU), played along with Southville International School and Colleges (SISC), South Mansfield College (SMC), Stonyhurst-Southville International School Batangas (SSIS-Batangas), Stonyhurst-Southville International School Lipa (SSIS-Lipa), and SEED Academy. There were competitions between volleyball, basketball, football and badminton varsities held last February 10 and 24, 2018.

“Our SHS Volleyball team consists mostly of players who have just started with the sport this school year. For most of us, it was a big adjustment to be a part of a new school and a new team. To be part of this SGEN Cup was a great opportunity for all of us, individually and as a team. SGEN Cup was the very first league our team joined, and got to experience what it felt like to play against different teams. It was also where we got to know each other even more, especially our attitude inside the court. From there, we learned how to address each other’s strengths and weaknesses,” shared Jasmine Cameron Vicedo.

During the games, our coach could see how pressured we were to be playing against more experienced teams. Since we’re only a new team, it wasn’t really our goal yet to win. “What’s important is you learn from your experience in this game to use it as a motivation to become even better,” Coach Jov told us. We played by that. Despite the pressure, we gave our best and we didn’t let our mistakes hold us back. We also learned the importance of communication in and out of the court. Though we didn’t win, we consider the result of SGEN Cup as a stepping stone for us all to become better.
