Foreign University International School Manila Philippines - Patricia Tabuton - Internship

As a Hospitality Management student, my focus was doing my internship in a hotel but I was led to a different side of the hospitality industry. I’m currently doing my internship in InterContinental Hotels Group Worldwide Sales Centre located in Makati City, Philippines.

SISFU is the first partner of IHG Worldwide Sales Centre and I’m thankful that I am the first intern of the organization. During my stay in the company, I was assigned to 5 different departments/teams. These teams were: Sales Coordinators Team (the backbone of the company) where they do admin work and reports requested by different teams, Business Development Team which mainly focuses on looking for potential clients that will bring revenue to the company, Accounts Management Team who has a direct contact with the client and they also ensure that IHG closes business with clients, Europe Meeting Centre which acts as a bridge to clients and the hotel properties across Europe, and Shared Sales Support Team which supports the Global Account Managers that manages global accounts.

Part of my job as an intern is to join the ‘Show We Care’ or ‘Corporate Social Responsibility’ of the company. I was privileged to join one of the ‘Sales Coordinators Team’s Show We Care’ activities which is going to Little Angels Home Inc. and feeding children from 3 months-12 years old.

This internship is very challenging yet fun since it’s a new environment and I feel like I’m still studying during my stay. I learned that the hospitality industry does not only include restaurants and hotels, but also corporate offices like IHG Worldwide Sales Centre. This made me expand my option in choosing which career path I will take once I graduate and I’m very thankful for IHG WWSC as well as SISFU for giving me a privilege to experience this kind of internship.
