Internships and Work Placements

John Taylor

Foreign University International School Manila Philippines - John Taylor - Internship

I had an excellent internship experience at Thomson Reuters. I was placed in the Human Resource Department, in which I was assigned in the Talent Acquisition Team. I took part in the recruiting process of applicants for the positions Research Analyst, Customer Support Executive, Data Analyst, and Global Support Desk.

On a day to day basis, I commuted from my house in BF to McKinley Hills. As soon as I get to work, I sit down at my own desk and start doing call outs for the different job positions indicated above. On other days, I do the testing of the applicants. Depending on what position the applicant is applying for the tests given differ. Tests range from aptitude tests, personality tests, diagnostic tests, written English exams and Phone testing.

During my lunch period, I either go to the cafeteria or go out to eat at a restaurant near the office with my officemates.

During the first month of my internship in the afternoon I shadowed my supervisor and other officemates who conducted interviews with applications. Later on when I got used to interviewing, I was given the chance to interview an applicant and decide whether to approve or reject them.

If a candidate is accepted during the interview, he/she will be endorsed to the hiring manager of the position. To do so I create a candidate assessment form like this:

At the end of the day, I email the applicants and I send the Candidate Assessment form to my supervisor using my very own Thomson Reuters email account.

During my internship experience, I was able to join the Human Resource Outing which was held at Thunderbirds Resort.

During the outing we had several different teambuilding activities such as amazing races and charades.

After two and a half months of hard work, my internship finally finished. My colleagues had a surprise party for my departure.

I can say that I learned a lot from my experience at Thomson Reuters and that I have grown as a professional. I was able to experience different processes and learned about different important business practices that are used today.
